Description

Goris is a charming little city tucked away in the Syunik province in Armenia. It’s the kind of place that gets overlooked by most tourists who flock to more popular destinations like Yerevan or Lake Sevan, but that's what makes it all the more special.

What sets Goris apart from other cities in Armenia is its picturesque scenery. The city sits on a bed of green hills surrounded by craggy mountains and historic sites. It’s a sight to behold! You can take a walk down the streets lined with traditional Armenian architecture and wooden balconies that overlook the city. Everything looks so quaint and cozy, like something straight out of a fairy tale.

Goris has a rich history as well. It's believed to be one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in Armenia, dating back to the 8th century BC. The city has been ruled by various powers including the Ottomans, Persians, and Russians. Each of these powers left their mark on the city, making it a fascinating place to explore. You can visit the Old Goris district and explore the ruins of the medieval castle, the Church of St. Gregory, or the local museum.

This charming city is also a great starting point if you want to explore the region’s natural wonders. The nearby Amulsar mountain is a popular hiking spot for outdoor enthusiasts. You can also visit the nearby Tatev Monastery, situated atop a high rock overlooking the Vorotan River gorge. Tatev is a marvel of ancient Armenian architecture, and taking the cable car ride here is an experience in itself!

Finally, no visit to Goris is complete without sampling the delicious food. The city is famous for its khinkali, the traditional Georgian dumplings, and a classic Armenian barbeque. You can find plenty of cozy restaurants and cafes to indulge in these local delicacies.

All in all, Goris is a hidden gem that you should definitely visit if you're in Armenia. It’s the kind of place that leaves a lasting impression on anyone who comes to see it.
