Description

Nastola is this cute little town in Päijät-Häme, Finland, that's totally worth checking out. It's got all that Finnish charm that you usually imagine – red and white wooden houses, a beautiful lake (Vesijärvi) right nearby, and plenty of forests to roam around in. And the best thing? It's only a stone's throw away from the bigger city of Lahti, so you can easily go there if you're hankering for a bit more action.

Anyway, back to Nastola. The town's got a population of just under 15,000 people, so it's not exactly bustling with energy, but that's kind of the point. It's a laid-back, easy-going kind of place where you can really relax and unwind. If you're into outdoor activities, there's loads to do here – you can swim, fish, sail, hike, cycle...you name it. There are also a couple of golf courses nearby if you're into that kind of thing.

If you're more of a culture vulture, you might want to check out the Pekka Halonen Museum, which is dedicated to the work of the famous Finnish painter from the early 20th century. Or if you're into history, there's an old ironworks (Anttilan Uittotupa) that's been turned into a museum, which is pretty cool.

But really, the best thing about Nastola is just wandering around and soaking up the Finnish atmosphere. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants where you can try local delicacies like Karelian pies or smoked fish, and you'll get to hear lots of Finnish being spoken (though don't worry, pretty much everyone speaks English too).

All in all, Nastola might not be the most famous town in Finland, but it's definitely one of the most charming. If you're looking for a laid-back, quintessentially Finnish experience, it's well worth a visit.
